TV Remote

Setup Guide

Set Up TV Remote

Choose the connection method that matches your phone and television.

Wi-Fi

Connect a Smart TV over Wi-Fi

  1. 1

    Check the network

Connect your phone and television to the same local Wi-Fi network. Avoid guest networks, mobile hotspots with client isolation and networks that block devices from communicating with each other.

  2. 2

    Open the app

Open TV Remote and select Smart TV or the appropriate television family.

  3. 3

    Allow network access

When requested, allow local-network or nearby-device access so the app can search for compatible televisions.

  4. 4

    Select your TV

Wait for the television to appear and then select it. Keep the TV switched on and awake during the initial connection.

  5. 5

    Approve pairing

Accept the connection prompt on the television or enter the code displayed on the TV screen.

  6. 6

    Test and save

Test volume or navigation. When the connection works, save the TV and give it a recognizable name such as "Living Room TV."

Manual

Connect using an IP address

Use manual connection when the television does not appear automatically but supports local-network remote control.

  1. 1

Open network settings on the TV

    Open the television's network settings.

  2. 2

    Find the local IP address

Find the local IP address, normally formatted like 192.168.x.x.

  3. 3

    Choose Manual Connection

Open TV Remote and select Manual Connection.

  4. 4

    Enter the IP address

Enter the IP address exactly as displayed.

  5. 5

    Approve if requested

Approve the connection on the television if requested.

  6. 6

    Test and save

Test a basic control and save the device.

IP addresses can change after the TV or router restarts. If a saved connection stops working, confirm the current IP address and reconnect.

Infrared

Set up Android IR control

  1. 1

    Confirm IR hardware

Confirm that the Android phone includes a built-in infrared blaster.

  2. 2

    Open IR Remote

    Open the IR Remote section.

  3. 3

    Select a category

Select the device category, such as TV, AC, set-top box, projector or fan.

  4. 4

    Choose a profile

Select the manufacturer and a compatible remote profile.

  5. 5

    Aim and test

Point the top of the phone toward the device. Test the power button and save the profile that works.

Downloading an app cannot add infrared hardware to a phone that does not already include an IR blaster.

Mirroring

Set up Android screen mirroring

  1. 1

    Same Wi-Fi

Connect the phone and television to the same Wi-Fi network.

  2. 2

Enable display sharing on the TV

Enable screen mirroring, wireless display or casting on the television.

  3. 3

    Open Screen Mirroring

Open Screen Mirroring in TV Remote.

  4. 4

    Grant permission

    Grant the required screen-sharing permission.

  5. 5

    Select and confirm

Select the supported display and confirm the connection when prompted.

Some protected streaming services prevent screen capture or mirroring because of digital-rights restrictions.
